There’s a story of a young boy who loved to visit his grandfather’s vineyard. One day, he picked a small vine branch, hoping it would grow in a jar of water at home. Days passed, but the branch dried up. When he returned to his grandfather disappointed, the old man gently said, “It wasn’t enough to be near the vine—you had to stay connected to it.”
This is the very heart of Jesus’ message in John 15:4—“Abide in Me.” He isn’t calling us to momentary encounters but to a daily, living, growing relationship.
To abide means to remain, dwell, and stay close. It's not about doing more, but being with Him more—resting, listening, and walking in step with Him. Just like a branch draws life and strength from the vine, we draw our power, peace, and purpose from Christ.
